Original Novel[]
Their first encounter is portrayed in the novel "The Last Wish," when Geralt sought her help to heal his friend Dandelion from a djinn's curse. Yennefer's initial reaction to Geralt was sarcastic and unwelcoming, though she agreed, but secretly planed to capture the djinn and use its power to cure her body of the usual sterility of bearing a child. She fighting to tame the djinn and would have died but for Geralt's intervention, who revealed himself to be the master with the djinn. To save her, Geralt used his last wish, and it was then that they began a relationship with a moment of intense physical connection.
Geralt and Yennefer's love continued in a complex, on-again, off-again relationship, marked by numerous ups and downs, break-ups, and reunions, ultimately culminating in them staying together despite the challenges they face. Their bond largely solidified by Geralt's last wish that accidentally was to bind his fate with Yennefer's to save her life since their first encounter, and that united their destinies at the beginning of history. Before they struggled to express their love openly. They lived together for a period before breaking up, only to reunite and separate multiple times over the years in subsequent stories.
Even when they are apart, they are deeply connected and eventually find their way back to each other. Their bond, whether he wished for it or not, kept them connected despite numerous breakups, fights, and reconciliations. Although Yennefer still wanted to have a child, even if she found a way to cure her infertility, Geralt would never be able to give her.
But when Geralt takes in Ciri, his Surprise Child, Yennefer eventually becomes a mother figure to her, providing her with love and guidance, while teaching her control the chaotic magic that resided within her. Although their relationship was initially difficult, Ciri also began to see Yennefer as a mother.
Ciri gived them a daughter and Geralt and Yennefer were finally get back together, a love that helped them move past their past hurt and emotional baggage. However, the events of Thanedd Coup violently separated the three. They were separated for a significant portion of the story after the coup; in The Lady of the Lake, Geralt then goes to rescue Yennefer from Vilgefortz after learning she was his captive, which leaded confesses his love to her and to their eventual reunion and they remain together for the rest of their lives.
At the end of The Lady of the Lake novel, Ciri's magic revived a mortally wounded Geralt and Yennefer after a pogrom in Rivia.

Yennefer plays a more important role in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where she is on a mission to find Ciri and clarify her relationship with Geralt.
Yennefer had been searching for Geralt and eventually found him again after his amnesia in other two games. They reunite and work together to find Ciri, eventually helping her escape the Wild Hunt. Their relationship can be continued throughout the game through the player's choices. Their shared quest to find Ciri will further strengthes their bond as they work together to protect her. Despite the option to pursue other romances, she remains Geralt's true love in the story.
2019 Netflix series[]
Anya Chalotra plays the character of Yennefer who acts as one of the main characters in Netflix's live-action series The Witcher.
Often described as fated and deeply intertwined, Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg have a complex romantic relationship, with twists and turns, despite their contrasting personalities and the challenges they face together. Also struggles with expressing emotions and a tendency to push each other away due to their past traumas and insecurities; essentially, a love that is fiercely loyal but can be emotionally challenging for both parties. Triss Merigold is friend with Yennefer and they are primarily portrayed as close friends, having attended the same magic school together. They had a complex dynamic arising from their shared romantic interest for Geralt, due to Triss also had developed feelings for him, which created a sense of rivalry between the two sorceresses, even as they maintain a bond of friendship.
Yennefer often competed with Triss over their feelings, as result of Triss' curiosity and jealousy over Yennefer's relationship with Geralt. Out of curiosity, Triss had seduced him with magic, leading to a brief affair which left Yennefer furious because Triss didn't told her anything about it. Despite their rivalry, they have always remained friends, although Yennefer warned her not to get close to him again.
They also demonstrate respect and care for each other, particularly when it comes to protecting Ciri.
