Triss Merigold is a sorceress from The Witcher books and games who interested and unhappily in love with Geralt of Rivia, and develops an attraction towards him, causing love rivalry and jealousy with her close friend Yennefer, Geralt's true love.
Triss was drwan to Geralt's strength and charisma, but her feelings were complicated by his strong bond with Yennefer. This often made her feel like an outsider, especially since Yennefer was her close friend. Yes, Triss was jealous of Geralt's relationship with her, knowing that Yennefer had interfered in other relationships, but despite this, she accepted his love for her.
Original Novel[]
Triss Merigold is often portrayed as a cheerful and seemingly optimistic sorceress, but with a more insecure and sometimes manipulative undertone, particularly in regards to her fascination with Geralt. Triss and Geralt had an affair, this was partly fueled by Triss' use of spells to seduce him, mainly out of curiosity and desire to experience the type of relationship he had with Yennefer, since she had been attracted to him for a long time. She take advantage of a moment when Geralt and Yennefer were separated; Triss essentially wanted to "get a taste" of what it was like to be with him, but in the end she got more than she bargained for, and it resulted in a brief romance.
After a while, Geralt ended the affair out of guilt, something that proved difficult for Triss after falling deeply in love with him. Despite her unrequited love, she remained a very good friend even after the affair, but Geralt does not want to start a relationship again, and Triss even puts aside her own feelings to help Ciri, whom she sees as a little sister.
Video Games[]
The Witcher[]
Triss is a major character in the first The Witcher game. Contrary to what is described in the books, in the game she is portrayed in a very "open-hearted" manner, where Triss developed a relationship with Geralt, since the amnesia that Geralt suffers from plays an important role, as he has fragmented past memories with Yennefer whom he loved, something that Triss takes advantage of and subtly manipulates to make it seem like she is herself, so that she can be with him.
The Witcher 2: Assassing of Kings[]
In The Witcher 2, the romance between Geralt and Triss continues, while he is still recovering from amnesia and memories of his true love. Once his memories returned, their relationship becomes strained when Geralt realizes that his true feelings are for Yennefer.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt[]
In Wild Hunt, she acts as friend and former lover, with the option for players to pursue a romantic relationship with her, although her primary connection is considered a more significant love interest with Yennefer, making her dynamic a central love triangle within the game's narrative; essentially, Triss is a potential romantic option, but not the main love interest.
2019 Netflix series[]
In the series, Triss is a close friend with a persistent romantic interest, portrayed by Anna Shaffer.
She had fallen deeply in love with the witcher Geralt of Rivia ever since she asked him to help her in the mysterious case of a striga that threatened the kingdom of Temeria. Her attraction to Geralt are evident, and sometimes lead to moments of sadness and longing, especially when she realizes that he is primarily in love with Yennefer, his great love. It's the only time she's felt the sting of jealousy towards her friend. Despite this, Triss respects his commitment to Yennefer, remaining a loyal and understanding friend.
Love Rivals[]
Yennefer of Vengerberg[]
Yennefer and Triss have been close friends since their years at the academy, likely developing a bond that transcends their later rivalry. Triss' feelings for Geralt create a degree of rivalry with Yennefer, as she desired a relationship with him that she perceived her friend has. But despite their jealousy and feelings, Triss and Yennefer maintain a level of friendship and respect, supporting each other and working together.
