History[]
Ellen works as a surgeon at Central City Hospital where she regularly attends to the wounds of those in the police force as well as civilians. She had a relationship with Denny Colt up until his unexpected death in the line of duty and to this day, still believes he is dead. However, unbeknown to her Denny is now The Spirit, an unkillable crimefighter who works with her father, Commissioner Dolan to protect the citizens of Central City and most importantly, The Octopus. At some point in his heroics, Ellen fell for The Spirit while tending to his wounds and they to began a romantic relationship, although she does not seem to recognise that he is Denny Colt.
In present time, Ellen arrives at the scene of the murder of a fellow police offer at the hands of The Octopus and tends to The Spirit who is badly injured after an encounter with him. She scolds him for putting himself in danger constantly and that he needs to go to the hospital for treatment, but The Spirit brushes off her request and tells jokes instead. She then goes to help a wounded Detective Sussmen who needs her help.
Ellen encounters him again in her office, where he tells her that she's the only one for him. She retorts, telling him that he charms every woman he meets and he can't help it but despite her jealousies she continues to fall for him and they share a kiss before being interrupted by her father.
In The Spirits final battle with The Octopus, Ellen prepares to come to his aid yet again, but sees him kissing Sand Saref as they say goodbye. She is angered by this but the two make amends and embrace.
