Cupid

In classical mythology, Cupid (Latin Cupido, meaning "desire") is the god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection. In contemporary popular culture, Cupid is shown drawing his bow to inspire romantic love, often as an icon of Valentine's Day.

In Popular Culture[]

  • In an episode of Daria titled Depth Takes a Holiday, Cupid is the embodiment of Valentine's Day. He has the ability to ring out a person's romantic feelings just by talking in a deep voice and playing sensual music out of nowhere. Despite carrying a quiver with bows and arrows, he uses a remote control to make people fall in love.
  • In the South Park episode Cartman Finds Love, Cartman envisions a Cupid-version of himself who is his partner in matchmaking. Cartman and his Cupid-self have a playful, flirtatious relationship. When he's angry, Cartman beats his Cupid-self to death, but as he's just a thought-form the deaths are only temporary. It's heavily implied that Cupid-Cartman is Cartman's unstable imagination running wild.
