Chip Dove is the primary love interest in the 2009 teen horror comedy film Jennifer's Body. He is the doting boyfriend of Anita "Needy" Lesnicki, whose best friend Jennifer is inadvertently possessed by a demonic entity after a cult ritual goes wrong.
He was portrayed by Johnny Simmons.
History[]
Chip is the long-term boyfriend of Needy and truly adores her, although he isn't a big fan of Jennifer and the friendship they have. He thinks Jennifer isn't a good friend but Needy shoots him down. Jennifer asks Needy to go a gig at a small bar in their home of Devil's Kettle where NYC band Low Shoulder are playing, although Chip doesn't think it's a good idea. The bar bursts into flames, killing several students and teachers.
Later that night, Chip gets a call from a frantic Needy who tells him that Jennifer got into a van with members of the band and she is very concerned about her friend, she then hears a bang on the door. Chip asks Needy if she wants him to come over but they are interrupted by Jennifer's sudden arrival.
Chip sees Needy talking to Colin Gray and he starts to get jealous. Needy assures him they just share a creative writing class and he's a good writer. He sees Needy talking to him again, but this time Needy tells him that Colin actually asked Jennifer out on a date, much to Chip's surprise. Chip then tells Needy that he bought condoms and suggests she comes over for a romantic evening. Needy and Chip make out on the bed for a little while before eventually having sex and therefore, losing their respective virginities. During sex and unbeknown to Chip, Needy starts to have traumatic visions of Jennifer in her demonic form and that of boys who have been killed causing her to scream out, while Chip looks at her confusingly.
Days later, Chip confirms details of the upcoming school dance with Needy but she says she can't go and tells him the truth about Jennifer, that she is a demonic succubus who has been killing boys as a result of being sacrificed by the members of Low Shoulder, she then breaks up with him in order to protect him from her. Chip doesn't believe Needy and leaves, hurt by the breakup.
Chip is heading towards the school dance when he is intercepted by Jennifer, who tells him that the reason Needy is acting strange and distant is because she was sleeping with Colin and that Jennifer has always liked him. Jennifer uses Chip's heartbreak to seduce him and the two begin making out in the field. Jennifer then takes him to an abandoned swimming pool for some privacy and tries to kiss him again but this time he rejects her and in anger, she throws him into the depths.
Chip tries to escape but is constantly dragged into the water by Jennifer in her demonic form. Needy, sensing his danger, races to find him and bursts into the swimming pool. As she arrives she sees Jennifer feeing on him and instantly dives onto her to drag him off. Chip and Needy manage to get out of the water and while she and Jennifer are arguing, Chip impales Jennifer with a large pole. Jennifer pulls the pole out of her abdomen and leaves while Chip is laying on the floor bleeding out. He apologising to Needy and they both confess their love for each other before succumbing to his wounds and dying in her arms.
Distraught by his death, Needy sets out for revenge, first by killing Jennifer and then Low Shoulder.
